All the news and updates from around the grounds on Day 4 of Roland-Garros 2025
Wednesday's play has now come to an end at Roland-Garros. Matches start at 11am on Thursday - Day 5 Order of Play
Holger Rune comes through against Emilio Nava 6-3, 7-6(5), 6-3 on Court Philippe-Chatrier just before 11pm Paris time. It'll be Frenchman Quentin Halys up next for the Dane when he returns to the match court on Friday. He's also on a collision course with Lorenzo Musetti in the last 16 if both keep moving through the bottom half of the draw.
Another two Americans are through as Sebi Korda beats Jenson Brooksby in straight sets and Frances Tiafoe is too good for Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta 6-4, 6-3, 6-1 on Court 14. The two meet in the third round on Friday for a place in the last 16.
The last match on court is over on Chatrier where Holger Rune has taken the second set tiebreak 7-5 to go up two sets to love on Emilio Nava 6-3, 7-6(5). It was a great set point to seal the second.
So far so good for Holger Rune under the lights on Chatrier as he goes a set up against Emilio Nava in Wednesday's night match. The Dane took the first set 6-3 against the world No.137.
Away from Chatrier, 12th seed Elena Rybakina beat another young American, Iva Jovic, 6-3, 6-3 while Sebi Korda and Frances Tiafoe are both in control of their second round contests late on Day 4. Three matches remain on court as we approach 9.30pm in Paris.
Tommy Paul produces an incredible escape act from two sets to love down against one of the iron men on tour to scramble past Marton Fucsovics 6-4 in the fifth. The Hungarian was two points from victory serving at 5-3 up in the fourth set before the American wriggled free and found another gear in the decider. The 12th seed is into the third round to play Karen Khachanov on Friday. Khachanov outlasted Sebastian Ofner in five sets earlier.
It’s yet another Italian success story, this time over on Court Simonne-Mathieu, as qualifier Matteo Gigante takes down former finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas in four sets. The left-hander holds his nerve during a lengthy final game to win 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 and meets Ben Shelton in the round of 32. It’s the first time Gigante has reached the third round at a Grand Slam.
As world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka gets going against Jil Teichmann on Lenglen, men's seeds Tommy Paul and Stefanos Tsitsipas are fighting hard to survive.
Paul, the 12th seed, was down two sets to one and 3-5 in the fourth against Marton Fucsovics but won four games in a row to force a fifth. And former finalist Tsitsipas was trailing two sets to one and a break against Italian Matteo Gigante, but has broken back in that fourth set.
There's nothing to separate Serbia’s Olga Danilovic and American Danielle Collins - they're deep into a decider on Court 6. Former champion Jelena Ostapenko has just dropped the first set 7-5 against American Caroline Dolehide.
Fancy some around-the-net-post fun and games from the one and only Carlos Alcaraz? Sit back and enjoy...
It’s a 23rd consecutive Roland-Garros victory for Iga Swiatek who looked very sharp during a 6-1, 6-2 win over 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu on Chatrier. The Pole was aggressive off the ground throughout on her way to a third round meeting on Friday against Romania’s Jaquelin Cristian or Czech qualifier Sara Bejlek.
The four-time champion Iga Swiatek survives a ten-minute service game to take a 6-1, 3-1 lead against Briton Emma Raducanu on Chatrier.
Men's defending champion Carlos Alcaraz won in four sets on the same court earlier. Read Chris Oddo's match report from his vantage point on Paris' main show court.
Bernarda Pera wins the first deciding tiebreak at Roland-Garros 2025 midway through Day 4. The American backs up her win over Caro Garcia in the first round by beating the 18th seed Donna Vekic 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(3). Her reward is a third round match against Elina Svitolina.
Meanwhile, Chatrier match of the day Iga Swiatek vs Emma Raducanu is under way. It's a fast start for four-time champ Swiatek who's up 3-1 in the first set.
After husband Gael Monfils' late night heroics on Tuesday, Elina Svitolina makes it a very good 24 hours for the family...
Carlos Alcaraz recovered well from the loss of the second set to get past Fabian Marozsan 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 on Chatrier. The defending champion treated fans to a couple of magic moments - TWO shots round the net post during the second round match - and plays either Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard or Damir Dzumhur on Friday.
A big result comes in from Lenglen where Casper Ruud, twice a runner-up in Paris, is out. The Norwegian former world No.2 - and recent Madrid Masters champion - didn’t look at his best physically during a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-0 defeat to Portugal’s No.1 Nuno Borges. It’ll be Borges against Alexei Popyrin on Friday for a fourth round spot.
Not for the first time, Fabian Marozsan is causing problems for Carlos Alcaraz. The Hungarian breaks early in the second and hangs on to his advantage long enough to serve out the second set 6-4 (he saved all five break points he faced in that set). Remember, Marozsan famously beat Alcaraz on clay in Rome in 2023 in straight sets. Game on under the Chatrier roof…
Carlos Alcaraz raced through the first set of his match against Fabian Marozsan, but is down an early break in the second on Chatrier.
Both the biggest show courts have the roofs closed incidentally, and Portuguese No.1 Nuno Borges has taken the second set off two-time former runner-up Casper Ruud on Lenglen - they’re locked at a set apiece, with Borges up double break 3-0 in the third.
Ukraine’s 13th seed Elina Svitolina is 4-3 up on serve against Anna Bondar on Court Simonne-Mathieu.
Players already into the third round include Italian duo Jasmine Paolini and Lorenzo Musetti after easy, early victories. No.8 seed Zheng Qinwen only dropped five games during her early appointment on Lenglen. Aussie 25th seed Alexei Popyrin is into the third round in Paris for the first time after beating Alejandro Tabilo and will face either Casper Ruud or Nuno Borges in the last 32.
We’re barely into Wednesday’s tennis and already we can look forward to what Thursday has to offer as the Day 5 order of play is released.
Jannik Sinner’s meeting with Richard Gasquet - a big occasion for French tennis as Richie plays the last tournament of his career - is part of the Chatrier day session, with Gael Monfils back in the evening slot at 20:15 to face Jack Draper.
Arthur Fils, Coco Gauff and Novak Djokovic all feature on Court Suzanne-Lenglen.
The Victoria Mboko run gathers pace as the 18-year-old qualifier from Canada beats Eva Lys 6-4, 6-4 on Court 7. Having qualified without dropping a set, that’s five matches in a row she’s come through to reach the round of 32 and so far nobody has taken a single set off her. Next up on Friday it’s Zheng Qinwen for the big-hitting teen.
Dan Imhoff interviewed the youngster during qualifying.
No.16 seed Amanda Anisimova kicked things off on Court 14 on Wednesday and took just 55 minutes to see off the challenge from Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic 6-0, 6-2.
The American, who was a semi-finalist here in 2019 and who has been steadily climbing back up the rankings after taking a break from tennis to protect her mental health, is into the third round and will now face either Clara Tauson or Arantxa Rus.
Here’s a round-up of all the action from Day 3 at Roland-Garros.

And what a day it was. There's always a carnival atmosphere when Brazilian players are on court and Tuesday was no different. Chris Oddo headed off to make some new friends over on Court 7 as Joao Fonseca took on Hubert Hurkacz, and here’s a gallery from RG photographer Johan Sonnet that captures the vibe on court.
Yesterday’s Shot of the Day belonged to Alexander Zverev, and see 👇 at 11:27 for more about that fantastic Gael Monfils - Hugo Dellien encounter.
Tuesday also saw the conclusion of first round men’s and women’s singles matches, with the draw now set for the last 64. Over the course of the last three days, players have laughed, cried and analysed their matches in front of the media - here’s the best of the press conferences from the first round.
If you didn't catch it last night, here's Gael Monfils after his three-and-a-half hour first round thriller against Hugo Dellien under the lights on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
Here are the match highlights, and Victoria Chiesa stayed until the very last ball and gave us her take on the action.
Welcome to Day 4 of Roland-Garros 2025.
Who are you looking forward to seeing today?
Two Italians get things under way on Wednesday: No.8 seed Lorenzo Musetti takes on Daniel Elahi Galan first up on Court Simonne-Mathieu at 11:00, and at midday women’s No.4 seed Jasmine Paolini faces Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic to open proceedings on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
Later on, Paolini will head over to Court 2 where she and partner Sara Errani take on Victoria Azarenka and Erin Routliffe in the first round of women's doubles.
