Yulia Putintseva's hopes of making it to her first Grand Slam semi-final foundered when the Kazakh ran into Madison Keys. She did not play at all badly but felt hard done by one disputed line call in the second set which she thought was out and, in her own inimitably dramatic fashion, she made the umpire aware of her disapproval. Alas for Putintseva, she came up short in her bid to become the first player representing Kazakhstan, man or woman, to advance to the last four of a major singles tournament.
